With going to the gym has become more and more popular, people are also wanting to know if it counts as being a hobby.

Good news for you, because going to the gym is certainly considered a hobby. This is simply for the fact that it perfectly meets the requirements of a hobby.

A hobby is simply an activity done regularly in one’s leisure time for fun. While some might debate the fact about going to the gym as being fun, others (like myself) would say otherwise.

In fact, I consider going to the gym as being one of the best hobbies out there. Let’s dive deeper into this topic as it’s something that I’m really passionate about.

Given the fact that my blog is all about hobbies and sports, there’s a quote that I often use that I want to share with you:

Find three hobbies that you love. One to make you money. One to keep you fit. And one to be creative.

It’s safe to say that having at least three hobbies is great practice, but that’s going to depend on quite a few factors and what those hobbies specifically are.

The great thing about the gym is that it can actually hit all of those key points. With that being said, let’s talk about some of the biggest benefits when it comes to going to the gym as a hobby.

1) Going to The Gym Can Keep You Fit

This is going to be one of the most obvious benefits of going to the gym as a hobby, but it’s also one of the most beneficial. After all, who doesn’t want to look and feel their best?

I’ve been working out for many years now, and I can personally say that being fit also comes along with other great benefits (for me) such as:

  • Better overall eating habits, sleep, and health.
  • I’ve noticed a significant increase in my confidence.
  • Don’t forget about the benefit of having that attractive body.

There’s also a difference between being fit and keeping fit. It’s going to take time, consistency, and discipline. But that’s the great thing about a hobby.

You can do it in your free time and still enjoy the process. At least, I certainly hope that you enjoy going to the gym as it makes for a much better overall experience.

2) Going To The Gym Can Help With Creativity

Consider this one of those ‘hidden’ benefits when it comes to going to the gym. For me, I love going to the gym first thing in the morning.

Note: Yes, I am one of those crazy people who wakes up at 5:30 AM to go to the gym.

Aside from the fact that I consider myself a morning person, I also like going to the gym first because it significantly helps with my creativity.

There’s a lot of great feelings when it comes to going to the gym, such as:

  • Setting a new personal record.
  • Simply adding 2.5lbs to your working set.
  • Finishing a heavily demanding cardio session.
  • Getting an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like muscle pump.

Many of these little accomplishments always have me thinking really big. It could be the fact that cardio and strength training helps to release endorphins, but it’s where I get the most creative.

Maybe you’re the same way, or maybe now you want to go to the gym to see how it works for you. For example, when it comes to my creativity:

  • I stress a whole lot less.
  • I come up with plenty more ideas.
  • I start seeing solutions for life’s nagging problems.
  • Heck, I can even come up with more articles to write about 🙂

Everything that I mentioned up in the bullet points I personally contribute to my increased creativity. No wonder why so many other people consider going to the gym as a hobby, because I’m right there with them.

3) Yes, Going To The Gym Can Help You Make Money

Believe it or not, going to the gym can allow you to make money in quite a few ways. What’s better than doing what you love? Getting paid for it, of course.

For starters, there are plenty of apps that will actually pay you cash for going to the gym. I’ve used a few of them and while you don’t get paid a whole lot of money (maybe a few dollars a week), it’s still a very nice incentive.

Next, you can get paid for teaching others what you do at the gym (or simply your knowledge). While a personal trainer might be the first subject that pops in your mind, I’m referring more towards YouTube.

Nowadays, many people are getting paid to talk about and teach their favorite hobbies. Going to the gym, exercising, and just fitness, in general, is one the largest overall niches out there.

Side note, the three biggest niches when it comes to anything hobbies related is:

  • Health.
  • Wealth.
  • Relationships.

And yes, you can also make money when it comes to any related hobby that fits into those niches. Going to the gym and working out obviously fits into the health category.

The fact of the matter is that you can most likely make money from your hobbies and passion. When it comes to the gym, so many people are already doing it. Success leaves clues, so you just need to model (not copy) what other successful people are doing.

4) You Can Make Many New Friends Going To The Gym

I’ve stated it many times before, and I’ll say it again. Hobbies can be even better when you include others in the process.

Thanks to the ability to go out and work out a gym, it opens up the opportunity to meet and make many new friends.

Even better, you’re at a place where (just about) everyone is interested in bettering their health and fitness in some way, shape, or form.

I can’t even begin to describe how many great people that I’ve met by working out in many gyms. Especially when I was in college, it was a great way to connect and shoot ideas back and forth about workouts.

So if you’re more towards the beginning stages of working out, you can get a lot of great advice about reaching your fitness goals. Just be careful of who you listen to, because everyone seems to be a ‘fitness coach’ (or worse, a life coach) nowadays.

How Do You Get A Hobby At The Gym?

Turning your gym workouts into a hobby is going to come down to discipline, consistency, and simply having a plan (or some type of gym routine).

I’d love to say that there are a ton of other important factors when it comes to this, but there really aren’t. There are definitely factors, but they aren’t as important and being consistently disciplined, and having some type of plan.

While you might already consider yourself in a great spot where you’re consistently going to the gym, sometimes life can happen and throw a wrench in your routine.

So be aware that there always going to be times when you miss the gym, or something else important comes up that you can’t miss. Just shake it off and continue on with your workout on the next available day.

Yes, working out at the gym is most definitely a hobby. In fact, it’s one of the best and most highly recommended hobbies that you can have.

If you get it done earlier in the morning, then you’ll have plenty of time when you come home from work to focus on any other fun hobby or activity that you might have in mind.

Or heck, you’ve already got your hard workout in for the day. Maybe you just want to kick back and watch Netflix, your favorite sports team, or one of the most popular and recent movies.
